What We Do and Our Previous Events

  • Presentations at Macomb City Hall on Asian and Asian American and Pacific Islanders history in and contributions to the USA held In Macomb’s City Hall in 2022.
  • Presentation of PBS documentary, “Try Harder” at Carl Sandburg Theatre, Western Illinois University, which focused on the emotional and mental challenges faced by students at the Lowell High School who are mostly Asians as they apply to elite
    Colleges.
  • Yearly short commentaries on TriState Public Radio’s Women Voices series covering Asian and Asian American-focused issues, beginning in 2021.
  • Participation as a roundtable panel presenter on Asians and Pacific Islanders History at Western Illinois and specifically at Western Illinois University sponsored by the Department sponsored by the Department of History (April 2024).
  • Participated in Macomb Public Library Macomb Public Library Preschool Story Time, which introduced the children to the Philippines, its people and culture, through the use of visual aids (illustrated books, Leap Frog Globe, toy artifacts).
  • Quarterly meetings of the Board of Directors.
  • Collecting of oral histories of Asians and Asian Americans as a project in partnership with Western Illinois Museum (WIM), which records and preserves them and also presented as once a month podcast accessed currently from WIM’s website.
  • Seeking and establishing partnerships with other Asian and Asian American organizations to support AAHC overarching goal of advancing AA visibility, backgrounds, histories, and contributions to West Central Illinois and to the country. Support is conceived in the form of joint events.
